March 2-7, 2026
This event has passed

Transport your classroom back in time with a living history performance featuring two world-renowned opera trailblazers, Josephine Baker and Marian Anderson. Professional singers will bring these ground breaking historical figures to life through storytelling, music, and conversation in a 45-minute in-person program designed for grades 4-12. Lesson plans keyed to state standards are provided. This program is especially well suited in smaller classroom settings.

Josephine Baker, St. Louis native, World War II spy, activist, and one of the most successful African American performers in French history

Marian Anderson, one of the undisputed greatest voices of the 20th century who, after being denied the opportunity to sing at Constitutional Hall, famously performed at Lincoln Memorial in 1939 at the invitation of Eleanor Roosevelt

Curriculum written by Kareem Deanes and Rose Fischer. Script written by Courtney Bailey and Adam Flores.
