Opera on the Go! featuring Treemonisha
Opera on the Go! featuring Scott Joplin’s
Treemonisha
Bring live opera to your classroom!
Introduce your students to the fantastic world of opera featuring a 30-minute semi-staged performance of Scott Joplin’s stylish opera Treemonisha including the iconic “A Real Slow Drag” accompanied by piano. Designed for grades 3-12, each program includes three mini workshops: Music & Drama, Character & Movement, and Makeup. The program is recommended for groups of 100 students or fewer for the workshops and as many as desired for the opera performance.
- 🎠Music & Drama Workshop
Music is a vital part of an opera. Students will discover how music can create a mood, setting or even help to identify characters. Students will also explore how opera uses the same themes they hear and experience every day in popular music.  - 🕺 Character & Movement Workshop
Students will take part in an exploration of how movement is used to better portray a character onstage and be taught basic dance steps to “A Real Slow Drag.” - 🪞 Makeup Workshop
Singers must master basic make-up techniques to fully establish their character’s age, personality, and appearance. Students will learn a few of these basic skills as they see participants transformed before their eyes.Â
