We’re accenting the “o” in “opera”! The Intermezzo Society invites you to a celebration of Hispanic culture. This cocktail party is paired with a specially curated performance featuring up-and-coming Opera Theatre artists. Join us for a festive evening featuring OTSL’s incredible artists on the rise!

Featured Artists

Gabriela Linares is a Puerto Rican mezzo-soprano singing Ruth in OTSL’s Opera on the Go! production of The Pirates of Penzance. Gabriela was a Gerdine Young Artist in the 2023 and 2024 Festival Seasons. In 2023, she stepped into the role of Ms. Ott in Susannah, and in 2024 she sang the Scribe in Galileo Galilei and covered Rosina in The Barber of Seville. Gabriela joined Opera Parallel’s world premiere of Birds & Balls and will return for their production of Harvey Milk in the 2024-2025 season.

Phillip Lopez, bass-baritone, sings the Major General in OTSL’s Opera on the Go! production of The Pirates of Penzance. Philip debuted at OTSL as a Gerdine Young Artist in the 2017 Festival Season singing in Madame Butterfly and The Grapes of Wrath. He returned in 2018 to sing in An American Soldier and in 2019 as Antonio in The Marriage of Figaro. In Spring 2024, he sang Don Bartolo in The Barber of Seville with Opéra Louisiane and joined Des Moines Metro Opera as an Apprentice Artist covering the roles of Basilio in The Barber of Seville, Erster Soldat/Fünfter Jude in Salome 

Laura Santamaria is a Colombian soprano singing Mabel in in OTSL’s Opera on the Go! production of The Pirates of Penzance. She debuted at OTSL last Festival Season as a Gerdine Young Artist singing in La bohème and Julius Caesar and covering Musetta in La bohème and Berta in The Barber of Seville. Laura made her operatic debut singing Barbarina in The Marriage of Figaro and Mercury in the world premiere of Michael Polo’s Pluto at the Vienna Summer Music Festival in St. Petersburg, FL.
