Works & Process at the Guggenheim: This House
On April 6, 2025, audiences gathered at the Guggenheim Museum for a special Works & Process preview of This House, a new opera by composer Ricky Ian Gordon and co-librettists Lynn Nottage and Ruby Aiyo Gerber. Before its world premiere at OTSL this summer, guests experienced a powerful evening of excerpts, discussion, and reflection on family, memory, and legacy.
Moderated by OTSL General Director Andrew Jorgensen, the evening featured powerful performances from mezzo-soprano Briana Hunter (Zoe), baritone Jorell Williams (standing in for Justin Austin as Lindon), and bass-baritone Christian Pursell (Thomas), with pianist Eric Sedgwick. A dynamic chorus — Daniella Brancato, Brea Marshall, Daria Tereshchenko, Thomasluke Florez-Mansi, and Marc Cioffi — brought added depth and resonance to the evening. Through both music and conversation, the creative team offered a stirring preview of This House, where questions of memory, legacy, and belonging are as haunting as they are human.
