The 2025 New Works Collective Workshop last month was a vibrant showcase of opera’s future, blending bold storytelling with innovative musical styles. Over the course of the November 18-21, three creative teams brought their developing works to life, culminating in a preview event on November 20. Attendees experienced captivating excerpts from the upcoming operas, each exploring themes of identity, belonging, and transformation. Performed by members of the cast with piano accompaniment, the pieces demonstrated the power of opera to reflect and reimagine our world. This workshop highlighted OTSL’s commitment to fostering new voices and engaging audiences with fresh perspectives.
