Season Box Office Representative

Position Description

Opera Theatre of Saint Louis is hiring Box Office Representatives for the 2024 Festival Season.

The Box Office Representative is a temporary, part-time position responsible for providing outstanding customer service to Opera Theatre’s patrons while assisting with ticket sales and patron inquiries leading up to and during the company’s spring Festival Season. Successful candidates will be expected to work a variable, flexible schedule that includes a mix of daytime and evening hours on both weekdays and weekends, not to exceed 40 hours a week. The position may also be asked to perform other administrative duties related to the company’s ticketing software, ticket sales, and front of house procedures. Expected length of employment is April 2024 through the end of June 2024.

Responsibilities Include

Sales

  • Provide excellent sales service and thoughtful insights through all touch points for all Opera Theatre events including opera performances, lectures, special events, and pre-show picnics.
  • Become a proficient user of Opera Theatre’s Customer Relationship Management software (Tessitura) to accurately process sales and donations.
  • Offer day-of performance support including ticket distribution and fast-paced customer service resolutions.
  • Assist with mobile box office needs at off-site events as required.
  • Help to maintain a clean and healthy work environment, ensuring current marketing materials are prominently displayed for patrons and staff.
  • Assist with other box office projects as directed by the Associate Director for Audience Services

Customer Service

  • Offer friendly and respectful customer service to all patrons and internal constituents in accordance with Opera Theatre’s standards of service;
  • Respond to patron inquiries and requests received across multiple channels, including phone, email, and in-person transactions;
  • Maintain clear and accurate patron and sales records;
  • Provide knowledgeable information about Opera Theatre while speaking with patrons, including background on shows, singers, company history, parking, dining options, and “how to” information for first time opera-goers.

 

Experience & Qualifications

  • High school diploma;
  • 1-2 years’ experience in box office, customer service, or retail preferred but not required;
  • Familiarity with Tessitura preferred but not required.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Friendly and outgoing attitude;
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to work as a team player;
  • Ability to perform under pressure and maintain a professional demeanor;
  • Aptitude for learning new computer software systems quickly;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Weekday, evening, and weekend availability.

Compensation & Hours

  • Compensation: $15 / hour
  • This is a temporary, part-time, non-exempt position.
  • Variable schedule ranging from 15-40 hours a week, dependent on availability.
  • Expected engagement: April 2024 – June 2024

About Opera Theatre of Saint Louis

Opera Theatre of Saint Louis (OTSL) is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization known for innovative productions featuring outstanding young artists. The company offers a festival opera season each spring which attracts ticket buyers from zip codes throughout the metropolitan area, as well as visitors from nearly 50 states and multiple countries. As of 2023, OTSL has presented 37 world premieres, which may be the highest percentage of new work in the repertory of any American company. In addition to the spring Festival Season, OTSL operates year-round education and community programs serving nearly 17,000 local children and adults.

Opera Theatre of Saint Louis has a year-round artistic and administrative staff of approximately 45, which grows to more than 500 during the Festival Season. Several hundred volunteer members of the Opera Theatre Guild provide support for all aspects of Opera Theatre’s work and advocate for the company throughout the greater St. Louis community. The company’s annual budget size is approximately $12.5 million; contributed revenue represents more than 50% of budget.
