James Robinson became Artistic Director of Opera Theatre of St. Louis in 2009 where he has directed such productions as Nixon in China, The Death of Klinghoffer, Street Scene, Miss Havisham’s Fire, The Golden Ticket, La traviata,  Alice in Wodnerland, Champion and “27”.  One of the most sought after directors in the United States, he has directed new productions for the Seattle Opera, Houston Grand Opera, New York City Opera, Minnesota Opera, San Diego Opera, San Francisco Opera, Dallas Opera and the Santa Fe Opera in addition to working with the Baltimore Symphony, the Hollywood Bowl and the Minnesota Orchestra.  Internationally, he has mounted new productions for the Canadian Opera Company, Royal Swedish Opera, Welsh National Opera, Opera Australia, the Wexford Festival and the London Symphony Orchestra.  Recent productions include the world premiere of Picker’s Dolores Claiborne for the San Francisco Opera, Nixon in China for the San Diego Opera, Eugene Onegin for the Seoul Arts Center and the American premiere of Huang Ruo’s Dr. Sun Yat Sen for the Santa Fe Opera.  Future projects include Vanessa for the Santa Fe Opera, Cosi fan tutte for  the Aspen Festival, Champion for the Washington National Opera, and Nixon in China and Abduction from the Seraglio for the Houston Grand Opera.
